Hockey Card Stories!

Recently just went to Coles bookstore and browsed the shelves, looking for something good. I saw the words "Hockey" and "Card" and I was instantly hooked. So, being a lover of books and hockey cards, I got "Hockey Card Stories" by Ken Reid.

Possibly look for a review soon, and maybe I'll share some of my hockey card stories! In fact, share yours in the comments!

Pack Update: National Hockey Card Day Edition!

Ok folks, this is monumental news. I FOUND A HOCKEY CARD STORE IN ABBOTSFORD! This is crazy, and apparently it's been there since 1998. How did I not see this??? Anyway, what better day to become a customer than Hockey Day in Canada, also National Hockey Card Day. So, I couldn't resist heading down there today and getting a free pack. I also knew about the limited edition Jonathan Toews card that you could get with a $5 purchase of Upper Deck cards. So, being a collector, I bought $12 worth of series one hockey. I also got a Vancouver Canucks team pack featuring old cards from the 70s and 80s. Those cards weren't in the best condition, but I love the Canucks, so I had to. Plus, the employee at the store gave me an extra NHCD pack just because! I'm in love with this store. Anyway, here we go.
HIGHLIGHTS:

NHCD Cards:

Horvat! Looking good so far!

Hopefully he can do SOMETHING for Buffalo.

Gretzky.

Giving some defense to Luongo for a change.

Evander Kane: Pride of Canada. Riiight...

Orr.

Ron Francis Young Guns tribute... Pretty cool that Upper Deck's giving those to players who never had it.

And the Jonathan Toews memorable moments card. Nice.

Upper Deck series one:

Another Canuck with the Heritage Classic Jersey. Pattern?

Ducks hoping he can replace Hiller.

Awesome card of the man himself.

Promising young player.

This card looks pretty funny. Last man standing!

Love the toque, Thomas.

Awesome first season card of newly minted all-star.

Mr. Latvia, leader in votes for the All-Star game.

Woohoo! Schnieder!

And his teammate, the one and only Jaromir Jagr. Still got it.

St. Louis still producing in New York, but those were his glory days

Suter replacement?

Canucks team pack:

Awesome mustache.

Good goal-scoring touch.

Awww yeah....

Goalie in the background looks super creepy.

Are most cards not in action?

Sundstrom first season: check.

One of the all-time greats in Vancouver.

Well that was a great Hockey Day in Canada. And a National Hockey Card Day. I think I'll go and enter this contest now.

Keep watching for updates and Happy Hockey Day and National Hockey Card Day!

Check out Canadian Collector's Club if you're in the Abbotsford area, it's great!

Christmas Pack update part 2! The Shiniest, Schenniest, and Upper Deckiest!

So Grandparents just came over from Winnipeg. You see now why the Christmas update continues. They brought cards from themselves and some from my cousin. All the packs were Upper Deck brands (except one), and they were:
2014-15 Upper Deck
2012-13 Upper Deck
2014-15 O-Pee-Chee
2014-15 Fleer Ultra
2014-15 Upper Deck MVP
2013-14 Panini Prizm
2014-15 Artifacts

And here are the highlights!
14-15 Upper Deck

Cody Eakin- A great picture.

Shining Stars Martin St. Louis- St. Louis looking weird in that jersey.

12-13 Upper Deck (forget everything I said about the series one being rare-I got a whole box!)

Patrik Elias-Recently got 1000 points.

MVP Brian Elliott-An MVP insert before UD brought it fully back.

Carl Hagelin-First season of super fast dude.

David Backes-Nice canvas with a great pic on the back.

Ryan Kesler-I miss him.

Silver Skates Jordan Eberle-Hmm. That's a bad scan. I'll try a regular photo.

Ah, that's better. Looking a little cross-eyed there, Jordan.

Hockey Heroes 1970s Larry Robinson-NHL Career record plus-730. Wow.

14-15 O-Pee-Chee

Marquee rookie Nathan Lieuwen-The only real highlight, but it's a goodie! ABBOTSFORD!

14-15 Fleer Ultra

Nathan MacKinnon-First season card of the first overall pick.

14-15 Upper Deck MVP

3 Stars of the Week Nov. 26-Dec. 1 Malkin, Kronwall, Keith-A good insert.

13-14 Panini Prizm

Dual RC Class Initial Impressions Jonathan Huberdeau-Shiny rookie card. Not bad.

Robin Lehner-Wow. They don't call it Prizm for nothing. So shiny...

14-15 Artifacts

Jeremy Roenick-My first Roenick on the Flyers. Also got an Yzerman and a Robitaille.

Okay, remember when I said it was the Schenniest update? Here we go: I got 3 Braydens and 1 Luke. That's a lot of Schenns.

So that's finally the end (I think, though I wouldn't mind if it wasn't) of my Christmas pack update! Stay tuned for more fun stuff and more updates!
